Final pay and adjustments

Employment law and payroll rules in NZ shift more often than people think - minimum wage updates, KiwiSaver rate changes, public holiday rules, Holidays Act interpretation. Missing one of these can mean back-paying staff or fronting up to the IRD with a problem you didn't see coming.
I keep across the changes through my own networks and an Employsure partnership, so the rules your payroll runs on are current. If something material changes that affects your business, I'll tell you what it means in plain English - and what we need to do about it.
Payroll is included in the Starter and Plus monthly packages from $315/month, or $70/hr if you just need payroll handled.
Talk to me before you sign the contract. There are a handful of things you need to have in place - employer registration with the IRD, KiwiSaver enrolment, ACC, an employment agreement that meets NZ minimums, leave tracking. None of it is hard, but getting it set up properly the first time saves a lot of unwinding later.
Different rules. Contractors generally invoice you (no PAYE), and you may need to withhold schedular payments depending on their work type. Whether someone is genuinely a contractor or an employee is an IRD test - getting it wrong is expensive. If you're not sure which someone is, we'll work through it.
Every time you run payroll, you file an employment information return with the IRD within two working days. Xero Payroll does this automatically when set up correctly - you don't have to think about it. You just run pay day filing notifications, I make sure they go.
All tracked in Xero Payroll and accrued correctly per the Holidays Act 2003. Annual leave, sick leave, bereavement, family violence leave, public holidays, alternative holidays - the rules are detailed and they change. I keep your setup current so you're compliant without having to read the act yourself.
Final pay needs to include outstanding leave, any owed wages, and the correct PAYE treatment. We'll process the final pay properly, file the closing employment return, and you get a clean exit on the payroll side. The HR side (formal notice, any disputes) is separate territory.
Yes - and there's a specific PAYE method for them. Bonuses, back-pay, redundancy payouts each have their own tax treatment. Get it wrong and the employee's tax for the year goes sideways. I'll process them so the IRD treatment is right the first time.
Tell me where you are and how many staff. I'll come back within a working day with a plain answer about what payroll with me would look like.
